THE PORTUGUESE WAY

The Portuguese Way is one of the most frequented paths by pilgrims walking to Santiago, nowadays the second after the French Way. This tour starts at the border with Portugal, concretely in Tui, it will take you to the Rías Bajas against a backdrop of sea and mountains and will allow you to enjoy Pontevedra city as well.

Day 1
Tui
On your arrival at Tui we recommend you to leave your luggage at the hotel and enjoy the pleasant old quarter full of churches and convents and you also may visit the Cathedral. 

Day 2
Tui - Porriño 18,7 Kms
Today begins your journey towards Santiago. You’ll start walking through the beautiful streets of Tui City, you’ll pass near to the Ponte da Veiga Bridge constructed over the Louro River and also nearby the chapel of the Virxe do Camiño. This stages alternates paths and roads but has low difficulty. Now a new itinerary allows you to avoid the passage through the industrial park to get to Porriño. You’ll spend the night in Porriño. Once in Porriño we will transfer you to spend the night in Tui.

Day 3
Porriño - Redondela 15,2 Kms
At the exit of O Porriño you’ll get into the Camino through Ameiro Longo, Municipality of Mos, then you’ll ascend to Veigadaña and arrive in the town of Mos. Afterwards you’ll climb to the highest point of this stage in Santiaguiño de Antas to finally start the descent to Redondela where you’ll rest tonight.

Day 4
Redondela - Pontevedra 18,2 Kms
You’ll leave Redondela with a panoramic view of Vigo estuary, you’ll pass through Arcade, a town known for its oysters, and then you’ll cross the historical Bridge Ponte Sampaio. Your path will continue on a stone path until you arrive to Figueirido, later you’ll traverse several towns and at last you’ll reach the city of Pontevedra.

Day 5
Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis 23 Kms
After leaving the amazing old part of Pontevedra you’ll go deep into the rural area of Galicia and you’ll start walking across villages and streams. This stage with few slopes will lead you to Caldas de Reis where you’ll spend the night.

Day 6
Caldas de Reis - Padrón 18,5 Kms
Today’s stage is also marked by rural environment. You’ll pass through Pontecesures and continue towards Padrón where the house of the famous Galician writer, Rosalía de Castro, is located and that you’ll be able to visit. Tonight you’ll sleep in Padrón.

Day 7
Padrón - Santiago de Compostela 25,2 Kms
This mythical stage will take you to Iria Flavia where legend says the small boat with the apostle Saint James remains ran aground. Your path will go by many towns until you catch up Santiago de Compostela, once there you’ll walk through its magical old quarter and finally conclude your journey at the Cathedral.

Day 8
Santiago
After breakfast our services will end. We suggest you to visit the Cathedral and if you wish to do so attend the pilgrim’s mass celebrated everyday at 12 a.m.
